Upgrade to OSX Yosemite

Submitted by focal55 on Wed, 10/22/2014 - 11:59am

I upgraded my primary machine to Yosemite which has some great new features and a refresh on the look. The upgrade itself went great however I failed to realize that Apache and PHP would also be upgraded. Apache moves to version 2.4 and PHP moves to 5.5. Unfortunately, when Apache upgrades, all the customizations I made to the httpd.conf file get overwritten as well as my php.ini file. After a lot of googling I was able to get my local development environment back up and running. The last hurdle was PHP's GD image package which was missing PNG support.

Drupal 7 Views: Custom Sort Order when using Grouping

Submitted by focal55 on Fri, 08/22/2014 - 3:31pm

Portland ME - It always happens, the client wants the list grouped on a taxonomy term or field and at the end of the project decides they need those grouped items to be in a specific order. I usually resort to building a Views block display for each group and then place each blockon a blank node page. This solution works but I wanted to find a programmatic way of doing this to save time. My solution involves using hook_views_post_execute() to override the $view->result items.

Allow your PC to access OSX locally hosted websites

Portland ME - Crossbrowser testing, unfortunately a necessary evil, is the bane of our, and most likely every web developers existence. One of the most annoying aspects is that the site needs to be up on a server in order for services like SauceLabs or BrowserShots to see it and show the different browser + os combinations. If you are using a version control system like Git, it means a lot of unnecessary check-ins to test various code changes to make all the browsers play nice.

We do Photography

Portland ME - Over the years we have dabbled in photography, mostly personal snapshots of vacations and such, but in the last few years it's taken a more serious turn. We have invested in both new 'professional' grade equipment and our time to learn new techniques, which has really paid off. For the last year we have been shooting for our fashion & lifestyle blog, 5th & Magnolia, 3-4 times per week and most recently we have been hired to shoot both photo and video for a resort in Fiji.

Working with the best

Portland ME - Networking can be a daunting task, especially for recluse individuals like us, and although we try to attend Drupal meet ups and networking events we often find it difficult to become a regular. Which is what led us to the conclusion that rather than try to be something we are not, to just focus on what we really strive at which is being the best contractor possible and to really cultivate the relationships that we currently have. Heck, one good referral can save any business!

Wordpress 301 redirect for imported blog posts

Submitted by focal55 on Sat, 11/09/2013 - 2:47pm

Portland ME - I recently used the Live Journal Importer tool to move blog content from a SquareSpace website into a Wordpress project I am building. This went well after I finally found the export feature in SquareSpace version 5. For those looking, after you login click the Structure button in the top right of the administrative menu. Then look for the 'Configure this page' button and click it, an overlay menu will slide out from the right side.
